Treatment for PAD

The treatment for peripheral artery disease (PAD) varies depending on the severity of the condition and may include a combination of lifestyle changes, medications, and procedures.

Lifestyle changes:

-Quit smoking and avoid secondhand smoke

-Eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains

-Exercise regularly

-Maintain a healthy weight

-Manage other health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure

Medications:

-Aspirin or other blood thinners to reduce the risk of blood clots

-Cholesterol-lowering medications such as statins

-Medications to relax and widen the blood vessels, such as cilostazol

Procedures:

-Angioplasty, which uses a balloon to widen narrowed or blocked blood vessels

-Stenting, which uses a small metal mesh tube to hold open a narrowed or blocked blood vessel

-Surgery, such as bypass surgery, which creates a new route for blood to flow around a blocked or narrowed blood vessel.

It’s important to consult with a physician to determine the best treatment plan for you, as the severity of PAD may vary from one person to another.
